Alexander Forbes Group Holdings Limited (JSE: AFH) has announced new executive appointments to further strengthen the leadership team led by Group Chief Executive, Andrew A. Darfoor. All appointments took effect on 2 October, 2017.

In a statement, Alexander Forbes says Michael Weiss joins as Group Head of Strategy, Mergers and Acquisitions and a member of the Group Executive Committee.

Weiss will lead the development of business strategies that enable the group to achieve its long-term objectives for business growth and select expansion in sub-Saharan Africa. Working with senior leaders across the enterprise, Weiss will play a central role in managing the company’s portfolio of businesses, strengthening its efforts to enter new markets and developing new business capabilities. His appointment is subject to the successful issuance of relevant South African work permits.

Weiss was a Partner at the Global Strategy and Transformation team of A.T. Kearney, the global consultancy. Weiss has over 20 years’ extensive, cross-functional experience in the major industry sectors including financial services, having won and managed projects that include large scale transformation, supply chain, digital transformation, market entry or repositioning, M&A advisory work and privatisation. He also has broad experience in a number of diverse developed and Emerging market countries including Turkey, Brazil, Russia, Saudi Arabia and most of eastern and western Europe.

Carina Wessels joins as the new Group Company Secretary. Wessels joins from mining company Exxaro where she was Group Company Secretary and Legal.

Wessels has 17 years’ experience across legal, company secretarial, business improvement and human resources. Wessels is a past president of the Chartered Secretaries Southern Africa (CSSA) and of the Corporate Secretaries International Association. Wessels is the co-author of the CSSA board exam level Corporate Administration textbook and has extensive non-executive director and audit committee experience in a variety of different types of organisations, including serving on the audit committee of the Independent Electoral Commission of South Africa.

Leon Greyling, Managing Director of Alexander Forbes Investments joins the Group Executive Committee given the expanded mandate of the Investments business to drive group asset accumulation across both institutional and retail clients. Under his leadership, the business has successfully evolved its proposition and has integrated all investments capabilities across the Group, resulting in over R700 billion in assets under advice.
